A 29-year-old Brentwood man was killed at a Central Islip deli in what investigators believe is a gang-related shooting on Monday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Esteban Alvarado-Bonilla was inside El Campesino on Calebs Path when he was shot at 10:30 a.m., police said. The victim, who investigators believe was targeted, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a female employee “was believed to be accidentally shot” and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting comes after six victims of gang violence, mostly teenagers, were found dead in a five-week span in nearby Brentwood last year. Police have said they’ve been cracking down on gangs in the area since then, but haven’t announced who they’ve arrested or what charges they’re facing

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
