Letter: Lively Conversations At Library Salon

I would like to remind the Great Neck community about the Socrates Salon, where a diverse group of men and women of all ages from various backgrounds discuss topics like friendship, luck, wealth, compassion and humor. Here, we share our life experiences, our knowledge from our different backgrounds and what we’ve learned and are learning. Outstanding books are suggested for optional reading, while no advance preparation is entailed. The atmosphere is warm and hospitable, with coffee and cookies before and after the conversation.

The host/moderator Ronald Gross is the author of several books championing the revival of conversation as an antidote to people’s addictions to their devices. He cochairs the University Seminar on Innovation at Columbia University.

The Salon is generally standing room only, but can use more diversity of attendees. Salon meetings are usually scheduled on the first Friday of each month at 3 p.m., and new members are always warmly welcome.
