Letter: Hearts With Parkland

I lived in Bethpage for nearly 40 years, from 1969-2007, and now live in Woodbury. Bethpage Jewish Community Center was our “home” and the Plainview Mid-Island Y JCC has been a focal point of our Jewish community.

In 1993, my sister and her family moved to Florida, soon settling in Parkland. We visited often and attended the graduations of our two nephews from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the late 1990s. So, yes, I feel a personal connection to the community, the school and all those affected by the recent tragic—and infuriating—events there.

Although my sister and her sons have since moved to the west coast, we all share a personal sense of grief. We support the rage and efforts of the survivors of that nightmare and I, personally, would very much like to participate in a Long Island March For Our Lives event. Thank you for providing a venue to vent these feelings, and, hopefully, for providing me with a connection to that protest march later this month.
