Creative Readers, a multi-sensory literary enrichment program that uses drama, crafts, art, movement and music to foster a love of reading for children of all abilities, celebrated receiving the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award in 2017 with a party for participants, families and teen volunteers.
“Last November, I had the honor of being escorted by Jackson [Timeoleon Hristoforatos] to Washington to pick up the award, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award for Creative Readers,” said Program Director and Developer Elise May. “We were one of 12 programs in the country to get this award and the only one last year that went to a library program. This doesn’t happen over night and it doesn’t happen because of any one person.”
May thanked all those involved including the Port Washington Public Library director and staff, SEPTA, the Creative Readers staff and teen volunteers, in helping to make the program the success that it is.
At the celebration, students enjoyed party activities based on the book, I Want A Party by Tony Ross. Kids created crowns and acted out “Wave Goodbye” before the party ended.
