The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of tryouts for the Great Neck North fall sports teams. Soccer had two weeks of early morning workouts in late August, followed by a full week of tryouts during the first week of school. The football team also had tryouts, and all the teams are ready to play.
North’s JV boys soccer team played South at South’s field this past week. The North team came out strong with early goals from cocaptains Ryan Sheena and Dylan Solomon. The South team quickly followed with two goals. A huge contingent of South fans came to watch the teams play. The second half was filled with great defense by both teams and multiple missed opportunities for goals. The game ended with a 3-2 win by North.
The North varsity boys soccer team also played South this past week, though this game was played at the North home field. Both teams were matched up well, but an unfortunate mistake by the South team led to a 1-1 draw.
The JV soccer team played JFK Bellmore at home for the first time this year on Saturday. The North Blazers dominated the game from the start. The team controlled most of the ball possession, which led to three early goals in the first half. After the second half, the Blazers stayed dominant and did not let up any goals during the entire game, which led to a fantastic home game win. Goalkeepers Alex Swartz and Parker played great.
The North varsity soccer team’s second game of the season finished with another tie. The game was played away and the team is really looking forward to finishing the remainder of the season strong.
The North girls swim team won this week. The competition started slowly as the North team won the first heat. North was then disqualified for an infraction, but fought back, swam hard and won the meet with strong swimming by the entire team, including Daria Scolnick.
