Hu, Sassouni, Sontag, Pizer Winners In Library Election

Though the ballots were still being counted at press time, Liman Mimi Hu, Chelsea Sassouni, Scott J. Sontag and Josie Pizer were overwhelming winners for Great Neck Library Board of Trustee seats and all Nominating Committee races were uncontested in the Monday, Oct. 29, annual library election.

As the 10 p.m. poll closing time approached, voters patiently waited on line for approximately two hours. The last voters cast their ballots at around 11:30 p.m., and the library actually ran out of official ballots; the emergency supply is still being counted by hand.

Four seats on the board and three seats on the Nominating Committee were up for election.

• For the four-year trustee term running January 2019–23 for the seat currently held by Robert Schaufeld, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate Hu earned almost twice as many votes as her unsuccessful write-in contender Qiping Zhang.

• For the four-year trustee term from January 2019–23 for the seat currently held by Joel Marcus, Independent Candidate Sassouni, a current library trustee, beat Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate David Zielenziger with more than one and half times the votes.

• For the remaining two-year trustee term running from January 2019–21 for Douglas Hwee’s seat, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate Pizer was unopposed, winning the race.

• For the remaining one-year trustee term from January 2019–20 for Francine Ferrante Krupski’s seat, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate Sontag beat Independent Candidate Robert M. Schaufeld, current library board president, with nearly twice as many votes.

• For the three-year Nominating Committee term from January 2019–22 for the seat currently held by Howard Esterces, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate Francine Ferrante Krupski was uncontested and won.

• For the three-year Nominating Committee term running from January 2019–22 for the seat currently held by Donald Panetta, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate William C. Gens won.

• For the remaining two-year Nominating Committee term from January 2019–21 for Samuel Gottlieb’s seat, Nominating Committee Endorsed Candidate Siu Long “Alex” Au won.
