Taco ‘Bout Good!

AVO TACO opens its doors in New Hyde Park

It was the need for a hip, fresh, fast-casual taco restaurant in the local community that prompted owner David Hersh to open AVO TACO in New Hyde Park, which had its grand opening last month.

The name of AVO TACO comes from the word avocado, which is a main ingredient in the restaurant.

“Not only do we have amazing tacos and bowls, but we also have some great guacamole with several unique toppings to choose from, which include mango salsa, pulled pork and crispy onions,” said Hersh. “We even have one with caramelized pineapple, bacon, and cotija cheese.”

AvoTaco BHersh says that he wouldn’t consider AVO TACO traditional since the restaurant has a large variety of inspired tacos from the Buffalo Solider, which features sriracha coconut chicken, crispy slaw, Danish blue cheese sauce and scallions, to their Bueno Dias, which is made with cheesy eggs, carnitas, sweet potato straws, poblano avocado crèma and cotija cheese.

“We not only represent all of the proteins from seafood, chicken, pork and beef, but we also spotlight veggie tacos—some even with charred Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, red pepper sauce and sliced almonds,”said Hersh.

AvoTaco CAVO TACO also has a full service bar with tropical libations that are made with only top shelf liquor and fresh juices, and are available frozen or on the rocks. Some of AVO TACO’s favorites are its Passion Fruit Piña Colada and Prickly Pear Margarita, which are also apart of AVO TACO’s daily happy hours from 3 to 6 p.m. Live music is also offered on Thursday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. as well.

“What’s amazing about our menu is there are many amazing items to choose from,” explained Hersh. “We have more than 20 tacos, five signature bowls, 10 unique toppings for our guacamole, eight signature cocktails and even a kids menu. Everything sells very well and just about everyone we talk to has a different favorite than the next. If I had to pick one item that almost everyone gets, it’s the ice cream that we give at the end of everyone’s meals.”

According to Hersh, the most unique food item that AVO TACO sells is its Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl, which is made with grade A tuna, avocado, mango salsa, red onion and a ginger soy vinaigrette.

“We’re just so happy to join this great community that has welcomed us with open arms,” said Hersh.

AVO TACO is located at 2340 Jericho Tpke., in New Hyde Park and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
