After a long and unpleasant pause, the Smithtown Historical Society launched the first talk in its “Evening with a Star” series on Thursday, April 22.

Priya Kapoor, SHS executive director, was motivated by the recent completion of outdoor features constructed on the 22-acre property.

“Our outdoor stage is the perfect venue to conduct performances, hold lectures, and give speeches. We now can host gatherings in a Covid compliant environment both indoors and out in the open”, Kapoor said.  “This program reunites the community in a safe networking environment.”

The first community star, X. Cris Damianos, principal of Damianos Realty Group LLC, drew a near-capacity audience. Interviewer Kathryn Tusa, former Smithtown Historical Society board president, queried Damianos about his family-owned business’ 50-year history, community involvement, pandemic pivots, and future goals.

The audience participated in a question-and-answer period. Many attendees lingered past the closing remarks. By all accounts, pre-pandemic energy emerged from behind the facemasks, and it almost felt like a community gathering reminiscent of the “old” normal.

Attendees were served individually boxed refreshments donated by Elegant Eating Caterers of Smithtown.

The Smithtown Historical Society’s “Evening with a Star” series will be presented through August 2021 at 6 p.m.

Community stars scheduled are:

Chef Marco Pellegrini, Osteria Umbra – May 18

Gary Duff, Gary Duff Designs – June 24

Will Flower, Winter Bros. Waste Systems – July 22

Scott Posner, Edward Jones – August 26

The Smithtown Historical Society is located at 239 Middle Country Rd, Smithtown.

Registration for an “Evening with a Star” is on Eventbrite. A link can be found on the Smithtown Historical Society’s Facebook page under Upcoming Events. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person. Light refreshments to be served.

The Smithtown Historical Society can be reached at 631-265-6768.
