The Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition celebrated its fifth anniversary with a gala on March 11 at the Garden City Hotel.
When called on to support the Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition at its annual gala, more than 380 people attended. It was the coalition’s first major, in-person event since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Donations surpassed the organization’s goal of $50,000, and leaders of the group said that the total would likely rise beyond $65,000 when all donations are tallied. All of the money raised is directed to coalition efforts and funding items such as wigs, mastectomy bras, clothing, massages, physical therapy, and anything else a patient might need after a diagnosis.
The honorees for this event were Laura Altman and Kathy Baxley, co-vice presidents of outreach for the Rockville Centre Breast Cancer Coalition. Together the two women have led a group of almost 50 counselors, who are all survivors, as they offer support to women in south shore communities affected with breast cancer.
The RVCBCC is a non-profit outreach program for Southern Nassau residents who are living with a breast cancer diagnosis. Since the coalition was founded, the RVCBCC has expanded its outreach outside the village of Rockville Centre to include more than 37 towns in Southern Nassau County helping more than 100 women and their families.
