As Amazon Fresh’s Oceanside location, the first in New York, prepares to open, it is now hiring part-time and full-time employees.

Though the store will feature a “just walk out” concept, there will also be traditional checkout lines with cashiers. Amazon Fresh is hiring hundreds of workers to handle customer service, stocking shelves, cashiering, and packing online orders, as well as food service associates to prepare fresh meals in the store’s culinary area. There will be a virtual hiring event on May 26 for those interested to learn more about the open positions.

“I’m excited to welcome hundreds of new individuals to our Amazon Fresh team as we get the store ready for customers,” said Charlie Chacón, store manager of the Amazon Fresh location in Oceanside. “This is an exciting opportunity to join Amazon and build a career with us.”

Amazon Fresh stores use special technologies, which combine computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning, to sense which items customers place in their carts. The items are then charged to a customer’s Amazon account, so they can simply bag their groceries and walk out.

“We’ve always been at the forefront of business and economic development, and we are proud Oceanside is the site of Amazon Fresh’s first location in New York State,” stated Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin. “This new store will be a great opportunity for creating jobs and boosting our local economy, and we wish Amazon the best of luck here in America’s largest township.”

There is no set date for the Oceanside location’s opening yet. The hiring fair will take place virtually on Thursday, May 26, 10-11 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. Starting salaries for open positions are between $16.45 and $18.55 per hour.
