The 34th Annual Geraldo Rivera Golf Classic took place at the Old Westbury Golf & Country Club. The event’s host, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist Geraldo Rivera, kicked off the golf classic with a brunch before the golfers hit the course at noon. This year’s event honored Lynne and Michael Koufakis and the Koufakis family, of Star Automotive Group, as well as raised $200,000 in funds for Life’s WORC and their mission of making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Notable attendees included Geraldo Rivera, Honoree Michael Koufakis of Star Automotive Group, Marty Berman, Kevin Fortson, David Scott, Drew Levy, Justin Cornett, Erik Fisher, Life’s WORC Board Member Don Barrick, Jim DiCamillo, Roberto Hormazabal, Robin James, Jolt Mena, and Brian Turkel of Emblem Health.
For decades, the groundbreaking Golf Classic and other high-profile events have helped bring hope and light to this once-marginalized population. The Life’s WORC team has been together since Geraldo’s critically acclaimed series exposing the deplorable conditions at the Willowbrook State School on Staten Island in January 1972, a half century ago. Life’s WORC was founded by Victoria Schneps-Yunis, the founder of Schneps Media, the parent company of the Long Island Press.
