New Restaurants on Long Island

THE UNION

Elias and Bobby Trahanas hired Tom Gloster, who had already been well-known on Long Island, to be the executive chef of the brothers’ new upscale American restaurant in Eisenhower Park.

The menu changes four times per year. The current menu features a French onion soup, Little Gem lettuce salad, Brussels sprouts with yogurt, dry-aged prime steaks, pizza, bagels, sushi, and a 10-ounce burger, among others.

Starters cost between $14 and $20. Main entrees are between $24 and $48, while steaks and chops cost anywhere from $39 to $79. Up to 90 people can be seated in the main dining room, with an additional 14 at the bar, and 100 on the deck. A private dining room can be reserved for up to 40 people.

JIANG NAN SYOSSET

Following the success of this Flushing-based chain — the Flushing location was recognized as one of the only Chinese Fusion restaurants on the 2022 Michelin Recommended List — this Chinese fusion restaurant is opening its first location on Long Island, in Syosset.

Ducks, the specialty, are typically roasted in fire ovens for about 40 minutes, before being served with dipping sugar. At each table, the server carves a duck, and places pieces on a wooden tray. The hanging ducks are on display at the back of the restaurant.

A half-order costs $46 and contains duck half moons and gold leaf crinkles. An additional $15 will reserve duck bones to be wok-fried Sichuan style. There are also plenty of other menu options, such as sautéed crabmeat as well as tripe and ox tongue. Yufeng Li is the executive chef.

TAÏM MEDITERRANEAN KITCHEN FARMINGDALE

This popular Mediterranean mini chain with locations throughout New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., now has its first Long Island location, in Farmingdale, where you can build your own dream bowl or pita from scratch.

The restaurant does not use freezers or microwaves. Everything is prepared daily from only fresh ingredients. They serve green and harissa falafel. There is a gluten-free menu on which 80% of the items are vegan.

An original falafel pita costs $11, while a Mediterranean bowl costs $13. There are also plant-based Impossible Burger kebabs, and any meal can be customized with bases and toppings such as olives, or hot peppers. There are also a wide variety of sauces, such as lemon mint vinaigrette and spicy green chile, as well as snacks and desserts.
