Here’s everything you need to know about Tom Hand, incumbent candidate for Oyster Bay Town Council in the 2025 elections.

Oyster Bay Town Council Member Tom Hand was elected to the Oyster Bay Town Board in 2017, bringing a wealth of private sector business experience to local government.

Hand prides himself on protecting taxpayer money and holding employees and contractors accountable for their work. Fulfilling his mission to make government operate more like the private sector, Tom has helped cut property taxes and return over $10 million to taxpayers since 2018 while also working to achieve the largest debt reduction in Town history.

Hand has a long and distinguished track record of protecting the environment, having served as chairman of the Massapequa Water District Board of Water Commissioners and as an officer on the executive board of the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners Association.

As Council Member, he has overseen approvals to help the state Department of Environmental Conservation jumpstart remediation of the Grumman Navy Plume. He has worked with his colleagues on the town board to improve our parks with field upgrades, enhance community pool amenities and expand public Wi-Fi availability – all while reducing debt and cutting taxes.

Hand received a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in labor relations and policy studies from SUNY Empire. He previously taught at Dowling College as an adjunct lecturer in the business department. Hand served as an associate board member of Junior Achievement of New York and is a trustee for the Christina Renna Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists in research for children’s cancer.

Hand has also dedicated his time to the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and United Way. He is a member of St. Rose of Lima R.C. parish in Massapequa. He and his wife, proud parents of two daughters, have been residents of Massapequa Park since 1995.

Why are you running for Oyster Bay Town Council?

I am running for reelection to continue on the great work we’ve already accomplished to preserve and protect the quality of life of our residents. One of the top priorities I have had as an elected official is to protect our tax dollars and ensure every dollar spent is done so responsibly. We have achieved this for the past several consecutive years, all while delivering the best services.

“Furthermore, we have demonstrated fiscal discipline and decreased our debt while increasing our surplus, helping earn our Town 10 credit rating upgrades from Wall Street. This fiscal discipline and other landmark reforms have laid the groundwork for our future.

“I also plan to continue our efforts in paving projects, upgrades and enhancements at our recreational facilities, and protecting our communities from zombie properties. We will continue the historical improvements to downtown Hicksville, where millions of dollars in public and private investments are bringing an unprecedented revitalization to the community.

I will also continue our great work in safeguarding the environment by increasing our initiatives with water quality protection.

“In the past few years, we have increased our shellfish replenishment program by millions, bringing water quality restoration to our waterways through this natural filtration process. As a former water commissioner, the quality of our water is of utmost importance to me, and we need to continue our work in eliminating the threat of the Grumman Navy Plume from our communities.

“The town has strengthened its legal battle with the responsible parties and we will not stop until that fight is won for our residents.

“I worked with our Supervisor to tighten our spending, enhance our ethics reforms, and keep our Town accountable to the residents we serve. Our track record speaks for itself, and we will continue to enhance upon the services our residents deserve while protecting their quality of life.”
