For more than 50 years, Hampton Jitney has connected the East End with New York City while reducing congestion and lowering carbon emissions. Under Geoff Lynch’s leadership, the family-run company continues to innovate in sustainability, earning recognition as a PSEG Long Island Small Business Star for its energy efficiency initiatives.
What do you love about being in this business/being an owner?
I enjoy the challenge of operating a business with the rest of my family and employing 200+ individuals on the East End of Long Island.
How do you feel your business impacts the local community?
Hampton Jitney has been serving the East End of Long Island for over 50 years, we are part of the metro NY regional transportation system and provide alternate transportation to help reduce congestion on Long Island roadways. Each of our motorcoaches can potentially take 50 cars off the roads between NYC and the East End.
How did PSEG Long Island’s Business First Program support you?
We have taken advantage of PSEG Long Island’s efficiency programs in the past, (i.e.,facilities lighting), but most recently PSEG Long Island upgraded our transformer at our Calverton facility from 1000 kva to 1500 kva to help with our solar and battery storage plan in order to enable EV/fleet charging as well adding future grid capacity.
What role do you think small businesses play in promoting energy efficiency within the broader community?
Each business needs to do their part to increase our overall community energy efficiency and sustainability. We cannot be just energy recipients, but actively drive the transition to a more sustainable future. A Jitney has the lowest carbon footprint of 12 different forms of passenger transportation, including all types of automobiles, rail, and jets. We feel Hampton Jitney is helping drive that transition.
How do you feel about being a Small Business Star?
We feel honored for this recognition and we are grateful to PSEG Long Island’s acknowledgement of our efficiency initiatives.
