Sheharyar Ali is a proud father, former prosecutor, and community advocate running for Nassau County Legislature to make our neighborhoods safer, more affordable, and a better place to raise a family.
Sheharyar worked as a prosecutor in Brooklyn, where he spent his career fighting to keep violent criminals off our streets. Through his work in the courtroom, Sheharyar has witnessed firsthand the dangers of soft-on-crime policies and how they can destroy communities. That experience drives his commitment to keeping Nassau County safe.
Sheharyar is also a devoted husband and father of young children. Like so many families in Nassau County, he is concerned about rising costs, quality of life, and policies that threaten the suburban communities we’ve worked so hard to build. His professional experience, combined with his personal stake as a parent, gives him a unique perspective and a powerful motivation to serve.
Statement on why running:
I’m running for Nassau County Legislature because I want my kids—and every child in our community—to grow up in a place that is safe, affordable, and full of opportunity. As a prosecutor, I’ve seen the consequences of failed policies that prioritize criminals over law-abiding families.
I’ve worked closely with victims, police officers, and community leaders to hold offenders accountable and restore safety. I want to bring that same focus and dedication to our neighborhoods here in Nassau. At the same time, I want to make our communities more affordable by fighting to cut property taxes and implement efficiencies.
Top three issues and what I’ll do to fix them
1. Public Safety
Keeping our neighborhoods safe will always be my top priority. I’ve spent my career putting dangerous criminals behind bars, and I know what works and what doesn’t. As a legislator, I will:
– Work closely with police to provide the resources they need to protect our communities.
– Oppose efforts to defund or weaken law enforcement.
– Stand against Albany’s reckless cashless bail laws that have released violent offenders back onto our streets.
2. Affordability and Taxes
Nassau families are being crushed by the cost of living. We need to make it easier—not harder—for people to stay here, raise their families, and retire with dignity. I will:
– Fight to freeze property taxes and eliminate wasteful government spending.
– Support small businesses and job creation initiatives that grow our local economy.
– Push for greater transparency and accountability in budgeting to ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely.
3. Protecting Suburban Quality of Life
I chose to raise my children in Nassau because of the strong schools, safe streets, and close-knit neighborhoods. That suburban quality of life is under threat from overdevelopment and poor planning. I will:
– Oppose high-density housing proposals that don’t fit our suburban communities.
– Invest in road repaving, park upgrades, and other quality-of-life improvements that make our neighborhoods better places to live.
