Families looking for a lively winter outing can enjoy an afternoon of music and imagination when the Northwinds Symphonic Band performs a special concert for children of all ages on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Black Box Theater at Sands Point Preserve.
Led by conductors Helen P. Bauer and Brandon Bromsey, the program is designed to spark curiosity and delight young listeners while inspiring the next generation of musicians and concertgoers. From lively marches to familiar classics, the concert promises something for all ages.
The performance will open with a spirited march before Broadway actress Karen Murphy joins the band for a rendition of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things.” The program continues with Leroy Anderson’s fast-paced “Fiddle Faddle,” showcasing the woodwind section.
A centerpiece of the afternoon will be a narrated presentation of Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals,” brought to life with choreography by three members of the North Shore High School dance troupe. The concert will conclude with melodies from popular Disney films, though not before six children are invited onstage to try their hand at conducting the band.
Throughout the performance, Northwinds musicians will introduce and demonstrate their instruments, and children will have the opportunity to meet the performers and ask questions following the concert.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 2 and older and will be available on the day of the performance. Tickets may be purchased with cash at the door or by credit card at the Welcome Center. A $15 parking fee applies for nonmembers of Sands Point Preserve.
