Members of the North Shore High School Mock Trial team defeated Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School in competition on Monday, Feb. 9, earning praise from school administrators for their preparation and teamwork.
The win came as part of the school’s participation in the annual Mock Trial program, in which students simulate courtroom proceedings and argue cases before volunteer judges and attorneys.
Principal Eric Contreras commended the team and its advisor, Tara Fabilli, for their work.
“Through Mock Trial under the direction of HS/MS advisor Tara Fabilli, our students learn about the court system, our laws, and our Constitution,” Contreras said. “They engage in research, real-life applications, and learn to work as a collaborative team. Congratulations to all for this wonderful win and truly a wonderful experience.”
The Feb. 9 competition against LUHi required students to prepare opening and closing statements, conduct direct and cross-examinations and respond to objections, mirroring the structure of an actual trial.
Students recognized for their participation include Catherine Perciballi, Alexa Petulla, Polina Sememko, Genevieve Hudin, Ava Maffei, Abby Reisberg, Dylan Reisberg, Jacob Ludmar, Olivia McCarthy, Sophia Efstathiadis, Daniela Agustin, Sophia Leigh, Charlotte Healy, Despina Tagaris, Emma Sussman, Devyn Mandell and Allysa Kleyman.
School officials praised the group’s commitment and discipline.
“Kudos to this special group of dedicated students who are willing to work hard, learn the law, collaborate, excel, and challenge themselves in competitive environments with the guidance and support of Ms. Fabilli and their families,” the district said in a statement.
