Many people seem to confuse democracy and capitalism. Some seem to think that capitalism defines our system of government. However, our governance is based on democratic principles, including the importance of voting. Capitalism is about economics, not governing.

Among the more alarming of the study's findings: 50 percent of respondents said they feel unsafe, nearly two-thirds reported experiencing discrimination in the past year, and perhaps most noteworthy, 93 percent reported that election-year Islamophobia had “some to extreme” negative impact on theirs and their family's lives.
Long Island’s biggest export is its college students, the old joke goes, but the region has more than a dozen institutions where students can earn degrees in virtually any field of study. From small specialty colleges to large research universities, there are plenty of options for students to stay local. Many of LI’s colleges and universities have dorms that allow for students to transfer here from elsewhere. But matching a student with the right school can be a daunting task.
