The real estate mogul and ex-reality TV star’s convincing win—garnering more than 50-percent of the votes—was not unexpected, with various polls predicting that Trump would drub his closest rival, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and distant challenger, Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

No matter what happens, for two weeks New York was front and center in the political world, giving the rest of the nation a unique opportunity to see what it means for candidates to come face-to-face with voters here.

Long Island voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in an unusually pivotal primary election in New York State that could tip the balance of the race in favor of the Democratic and Republican front-runners.

Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has two events in Nassau and Suffolk counties scheduled for Monday, GOP front-runner Donald Trump will speak at a fundraiser later this week on LI and Heidi, the wife of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), is slated to host two public events on the Island, also on Monday.

The candidate’s campaign stop came two weeks before the April 19 New York presidential primaries, which have become unusually pivotal this election season since presidential candidates usually have their nominations clinched well before voters cast their ballots in The Empire State.

Police are bracing for a crowd of up to 13,000 and protesters have already announced plans to hold a peaceful anti-Trump rally outside the venue.

Earlier in the day, Kasich had appeared at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Student Center and visited Sagamore Hill, home of Theodore Roosevelt. At the town hall he told the audience he drew strength from TR’s example of “perseverance” in the face of opposition.
