Mary Dowling Knows Oyster Bay
“It’s Il Piatto,” said Mary Dowling of Oyster Bay, in responding to the mystery picture in the May 14 issue of the Enterprise Pilot.
Billy Minicozzi recognized the area as being, “In the Townsend Square mall near the old Foodtown that was there about 20 to 30 years ago.” He wanted to cheer on his Mets team hoping they will be at the top of the league by July Fourth!
Rosemary Mavros recognized the photo as the “Back part of Il Piatto restaurant where they have dining facilities.”
Edward B (Woody) Ryder IV replied with a compliment to the new Anton News website and added definitively, “The mystery photo looks like the interior quad area of Townsend Square, due north of Atlantic Steamer firehouse, by the restaurant once owned by Ed Minicozzi f.k.a The Homestead.”
Mr. Ryder added a very timely comment saying, “It could double as an al fresco waiting area for those New York taxpayers who come as supplicants to see NYS Senator Carl Marcellino for an explanation of all the new taxes and fees those on the other side of the Senate aisle [the Democrats] from Carl [a Republican] authorized the state budget to impose during the worst recession since Wall Street when people jumped out of buildings in 1929 and whose Wall Street grandchildren jumped into the Treasury Department in 2009.”
Jessica Craft sent an email saying correctly, “I believe it is the back of Townsend Square.”
Mystery-Mystery Picture Aced!
“The mystery-mystery picture (May 7) is the side of the Atlantic Steamer fire house and the other (May 14) is behind Il Piatto,” said Gina Varrichio Baade, of Hicksville, whose parents are Terry and Ernie Varricchio of Oyster Bay. She recognized the mystery-mystery photo saying, “When you walk by Gooseberry’s [Grove] isn’t that the building you see?” and of course, it is!
Oyster Bay is filled with great spots to take photographs, and it is getting more charming each year. Drive, or better, walk around the downtown area and you will see that it is looking better than ever: It is truly a lovely small town area.
We recently read in Newsday that the Oyster Bay Town Hall was used to film a hospital scene for a new TV series located in the Hamptons. Do take a good look at Oyster Bay, the hamlet is really coming together in so many ways.
The bare bones are here, and it just takes a bit of tweaking to make it shine. In our opinion it is happening just fine and dandy. Things don’t change overnight, but they do change. Here in Oyster Bay things are on the upswing!
