A strong field of more than 350 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes were on hand at Glen Cove High School on Saturday morning, June 6 to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of the Normandy Beaches with the Wounded Warrior 5 Kilometer Run and One Mile Fun Walk, and several athletes from Farmingdale were among the leaders.
Top local finisher was 38-year-old Robert Halinar of Farmingdale, who took third place in the Military Division with a time of 22 minutes, 59 seconds. Also winning awards were Cristina Diaz of Farmingdale (3rd place woman 25-29 age group, 24:55), Clara Sheehan of Farmingdale (3rd place woman, 40-44 age group, 27:07), and Amy Falkowski of Farmingdale (3rd place, Athena 140-159 pound weight division, 33:05).
