Brendan Rainey Knows Oyster Bay
Brendan Rainey called to say the mystery picture in the July 2 issue of the Enterprise Pilot was taken in Oyster Bay Harbor.
Arthur Leuteman of Syosset, who grew up in Oyster Bay said, nailing the location: “It is the big rock in Oyster Bay Harbor 300 to 400 yards west of Brick Yard Point.”
The photo came from Betty Tiska. She said, “Since there aren’t too many places left on land for an OBEP Mystery Picture, Hank and I thought a ‘Mystery Picture taken on Oyster Bay’ might be something new. Not only will the question now be where, but also what!
“Hank (Tiska) was out fishing today and took the attached picture. The answer is “Cormorants sitting on ‘Guano Rock’ which is located on the east side of Centre Island reef at high tide.”
There was also a correction for the July 2 issue. At the Fourth of July parade ceremony at the Derby-Hall bandstand John Bruckner corrected the identification of he and the passenger in the car. “It was Fred Marone in the car. I had my left hand out indicating a left turn,” said Mr. Bruckner.
There aren’t too many people who remember when we had to stick our hands out the driver’s window to indicate which direction we were turning in.
See things do get better – we just have to remember how things really were before!
