The East Norwich Juniors awarded a scholarship to Oyster Bay High School senior Sara Kenn. The Annual Scholarship Award was started when one of the Juniors was awarded a scholarship and commented “We should do that”.
To apply, all of the applicants filled out paperwork, wrote essays, and enclosed a transcript of their school grades in their submissions. All of the papers in the applicant’s package including the cover page were numbered. When all of the applications were turned in on the due date, the cover page was separated and the Juniors only got to see a random number on each sheet. The applications were read through, judged, compared, and talked about. Then the three top winners were identified and they were then narrowed down to the one winning student. The name was not released until the awards night held in the Oyster Bay High School Performing Arts Center.
The scholarship is based on the winner’s service to the community as well as their academic performance.
The Juniors would like to congratulate all the seniors who graduated in 2009, and wish them good luck in their career paths. To see more of what the Juniors are pleased about visit them at www.enjuniors.com.
