Cellini Lodge Annual Italian Festival at Tully Park
New Hyde Park Cellini Lodge No. 2206 will hold its Annual Italian Festival on the grounds of Michael J. Tully Park, off Denton Avenue on Evergreen Avenue, New Hyde Park. Hours are from 3 to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to10 p.m. Fireworks on Saturday night. In case of rain-Sunday night.
Church of Holy Spirit to Hold Defensive Driving Course
The Church of Holy Spirit, 500 Jericho Turnpike, will offer a Defensive Driving Course. The cost is $45 and participants will receive a 10 percent reduction in the liability and collision portions of their insurance premium. Saint Aidan to Collect School Supplies
The Church of Saint Aidan will be collecting school supplies on Aug. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the front of the church or donations can be brought directly to the Parish Social Ministry Office the week before or after. The items particularly needed are backpacks, calculators, one-, three- and five-subject spiral Five Star notebooks, marble notebooks, plain and decorated folders, pencils, flexible three-ring binders, pens, colored markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, construction paper, and all other miscellaneous items. Donated items will be distributed to children here in our local schools. John’s Variety located at 81 Hillside Avenue is kindly offering a 10 percent discount to those purchasing items for the School Supply Drive. New Hyde Park Funeral Home to Hold VJ Day Ceremony
The New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, will hold a VJ Day ceremony at noon. The agenda will include a welcome, posting of the colors, short prayer, introduction of guests, reading of 37 New Hyde Park men who died in WWII, presentation of wreath, 21 -gun salute, folding of flag, Taps, National Anthem. The New Hyde Park Gladiator Fund will hold the 15th Annual William F. Kelly Memorial Golf Classic to benefit James J.T. Meredith, son of James and Karen Meredith, New Hyde Park Memorial Class of ’81, diagnosed with traumatic brain injury. The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Seniors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney for a half-hour private consultation on any topic of concern. New Hyde Park Memorial High School Homecoming
New Hyde Park Memorial High School will hold its Annual Homecoming celebration starting with a parade that will wind through the streets of New Hyde Park ending at the football field. This year’s theme is entitled “Around The World” and all the floats created by each class will reflect that theme. At the half-time of the football game the float winners will be announced as well the names of the New Hyde Park Memorial King and Queen.
