The Island Trees Lady Dawgs Junior Varsity Basketball team won the Freeport Summer League Championship this summer.
The team beat Baldwin 40-30 in the finals. The team was coached by former Island Trees star Meghan Biondolillo and the team was made with girls going into 7th through 10th grades. The team members were Christie Ciaramitaro, Alexa Dolgos, Natalie Sulmonte, and Briana Wilson from 7th grade; Kim Ahrens and Cassie Paskins from 8th grade; Mary Dmuchowski, Kristin Duthie, Brianna Ferrara, and Stephanie Smith from 9th grade; and Kelsey Frank and Jessica Holt from 10th grade.
The girls played hard all Summer and continued to improve throughout the season. In the semi-finals the Lady Dawgs beat the first place team Carle Place before defeating Baldwin for the Championship. The Lady Dawgs were also the youngest team in the league, which makes this accomplishment even more impressive.
