New Hyde Park Annual Street Fair
The Village of New Hyde Park will hold its Annual Street Fair starting at 10 a.m. Jericho Turnpike will be closed from New Hyde Park Road to Covert Street until 4 or 5 p.m. when the fair will close. Included will be a huge array of vendors, plus opportunities for chances and many other events including a display by the New Hyde Park Fire Department.

North Hempstead Town Board reminded residents to take advantage of the upcoming Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) program at Michael J. Tully Park from 9:30am to 3:00pm.North Hempstead recognizes the potential dangers of the improper disposal of household hazardous products and offers residents an environmentally friendly way to dispose of household hazardous waste. Residents can return items such as aerosols, household chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants, fertilizers, bulbs, painting products, thermostats, batteries, cell phones and computers. In addition, following the very successful debut of the Town’s Pharmaceutical Drop-off program on June 6, 2009, residents can also dispose of outdated pharmaceuticals in an environmentally friendly manner at the S.T.O.P. date and location. Gloria Dei Lutheran Church To Hold Rally Day
Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church is having its annual Rally Day to kick off another exciting year of Sunday School. The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Williston Park Day Celebrated In Williston Park
The Annual Williston Park Day will be celebrated in Williston Park on Hillside Avenue and Willis Avenue to the train tracks. The Chamber of Commerce of The Willistons sponsors the day that is filled with vendors, food, rides and lots of fun. Stroll along Hillside Avenue and enjoy a huge selection of vendors selling everything from crafts to hot dogs. Entertainment will be in the middle of the street at various intervals, just to add to the fun. Come one, come all. Admission is free.
Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Walk-A-Thon
The Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. will hold its Annual Walk-A-Thon in loving memory of Jack A. Garofalo, of New Hyde Park, who passed away last January. He was a devoted member of the program and a student and resident of AHRC. The Walk-A-Thon will be held at Jones Beach State Park, Parking Field No. 5 at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. There is no fee for the walk, and only a parking fee of $6, but all contributions are gratefully accepted to continued the Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. that enables this unique program to be offered free to all those who are handicapped. The program provides therapy on horseback that is cost-free to the students and help the students see their “abilities” not their “disabilities.” Walkers are invited to invite family and friends to join the L.I.R.H. A. walk and to set a minimum goal of $25 per person and most walker teams are able to raise at least $200. All contributions are welcomed and appreciated. The 17th Annual Don Monti Memorial Golf Classic
The St. Mary’s Alumni Association’s 17th Annual Don Monti Memorial Golf Classic to be held at Plandome Country Club. He was a student at St. Mary’s Boys High School when he was afflicted with leukemia and passed away. Almost immediately, his parents Tita and Joe Monti championed the fight against cancer. The battle continues with the leadership of his sister Caroline Saldino and her husband Arthur and his brother Richard Monti. The Don Monti Pavilion at North Shore Hospital, the Don Monti Cancer research Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a reminder that the fight continues. The event was named in his memory in 1996 and through the generosity of his family, has continued each year to benefit the students of the high school. The golf classic will begin with a 10 a.m. registration and brunch, followed by the noon shot gun start. The day will continue with the cocktail reception and dinner including live and silent auctions along with the presentation of the Timothy J. Coughlin ’76 Award. The Herricks High School will hold its Annual Homecoming parade to step off from Park Avenue, Williston Park on or about noon.
