Comedian Preps for Funniest Person Contest
When lifelong Levittowner William Flinn first hit the stage it was his love for singing and music that brought him there. Now, Flinn, 26, can still be found on a stage, but he’ll be cracking jokes instead.
The 2001 Division Avenue High School graduate has been a part of the production company Comedy To Go, developing a reputation for being an unpredictable performer that knows how to make a room laugh loud.
“The purpose of comedy is clear – to point to the absurdity of the human condition, to bring us all together, and put smiles on our faces,” he said.
He will also soon be featured as one of Comedy To Go’s up and coming comics on the new FiOS 1 news program Push-Pause. Additionally, Flinn is a semifinalist in the upcoming Long Island’s Funniest Person Contest being held Sept. 26 at McGuire’s Comedy Club in Bohemia.
“Obviously everybody dreams of winning, but you can’t let yourself get too psyched up for any show,” said Flinn about his upcoming performance. “You want to stay focused to deliver the best possible set.”
Flinn credits his Levittown education and upbringing as an influence to the person he’s become.
“My guidance counselor Elizabeth Thompson was my best influence from the Division Avenue staff, because she helped me get into college despite poor grades and a poor financial situation,” he said. “Some of the funniest, coolest, and most creative people I know are right around me.”
Flinn and many other comedians will be performing Saturday, Sept. 26 at McGuire’s Comedy Club, located at 1627 Smithtown Ave. in Bohemia. Admission is $10 per person. For upcoming Comedy To Go Events visit www.comedytogoinc.com.
