Vendors Holiday Shopping Night

Held by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nassau County Firemen’s Association at the Wantagh Fire Department, Park Ave., Wantagh (off Sunrise Hwy.) Stop and shop between the hours of 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is free and the firehouse is handicapped accessible. Unique items that will be available are handmade crafts, homemade chocolates, jewelry, candles, cosmetics, handbags, cooking/baking items, all from top sellers. Autumn Fair

Harvest Festival

The Historical Society of the Massapequas will hold its 26th Annual Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m .on the grounds of the Massapequas Historical Complex, the Old Grace Church, Merrick Rd. and Cedar Shore Dr., Massapequa. Tours will be conducted of the complex. There will be local fresh apples and produce, homemade apple pies and candy apples. There will also be a white elephant sale and local handmade crafts.

Holistic Health Fair

At the Huntington Hilton Hotel, Route 110, Melville, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Typical vendors include nutrition, environmentally safe products, life coach, natural skin care, anti aging, safe water, chiropractic, Naturopathic medicine, reflexology, weight loss, feng shui, fitness, Yoga as well as interesting lectures throughout the day on various health related topics. S. Farmingdale Fire Department Open House

The South Farmingdale Fire Department will host an open house to provide fire safety to residents and to remind them to adopt the lifesaving habit of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program. With the help of Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the fire department will spread the message that the weekend of Daylight-Saving Time, Nov. 1, is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms. Having working smoke alarms in your home provides crucial extra seconds to escape during a home fire. Firefighters will be distributing free batteries, provided by Energizer, for smoke alarms to help keep residents safe. The department will also have a smoke house simulating smoke during a fire to teach kids about home fire safety. 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 819 S. Main St.

Poetry Writing Workshop

Farmingdale poet Yolanda Coulaz will present a poetry writing workshop for adults as well as young adults at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library, 1 Lee Ave., from 7:30 to 9 p.m. every Thursday for four weeks from Oct. 22 to Nov. 12. Students will create original poetry after which they will have the opportunity to read/perform their poems at the library’s “Poetry Jam” at a later date. Registration required. CCAF Meeting

Concerned Citizens Assoc of Farmingdale will hold its next civic meeting on at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Park meeting room. A Candidates Forum is planned for those running for town and county offices. All local residents are welcome.

Women of Distinction 2009

Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino is hosting the second annual Women of Distinction 2009 event this month at the Farmingdale Library, 116 Merritts Rd., from 3 to 5 p.m. This ceremony recognizes the accomplishments of some of the outstanding women who make our community a better place to live and work. The assemblyman encourages everyone to attend to honor these women who are role models for all young women.

Paws for Parkinson’s “Howl-O-Ween Dog Walkathon, “ presented by the American Parkinson’s Association. Bonsai Society of Greater NY

Will be hosting its Halloween Show at Suburban Water Gardens, home of the Suburban Bonsai, 211 Burrs Ln., Dix Hills, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Competition will be held for the spookiest bonsai, the scariest saikei (tray landscape) and awards for novice, intermediate and advanced bonsai artists.
