Lady Dalers Swimming and Diving Finish Third in Division Finals

Competing against eight other teams, including two Conference I squads, the Farmingdale Lady Dalers Swimming and Diving Team finished third overall at their Division Finals held at the Nassau Aquatic Center. Coached by Ken Ilchuk and Randy Corcoran, the Lady Dalers started out ahead of the game, when Sarah Hendrickson(JR) finished 1st in the diving competition.  Hendrickson’s score of 422.35 qualified her for the New York State Diving Championships.

The other highlight of the meet was the performance of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Sara Golshar(FR), Lorraine Pye(SR), Nora Reade(JR) and Marissa Boccio(SR), who finished 3rd and broke the Farmingdale High School record in the event posting a time of 400.09.  The girls are determined to swim under four minutes at the Nassau County Championships.

At this championship meet, only the top 20 swimmers in each event score points for their school. The 200 Yard Medley Relay Team of Jessica MacKenzie(SR), Hendrickson(JR), Alexis Rzempoluch(SR) and Jillian Anesta(SR) did just that by finishing 4th in a season best time of 204.58. In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Lorraine Pye(SR) finished 9th, with a time of 216.84, followed by Nora Reade(JR), finishing 14th  with a time of 219.40; and Alexandra Pyros(SR), finishing 18th with a time of 224.48. Cindy Burhans(SO) finished 21st with a time of 228.60.

In the 200 Yard Individual Medley, Marissa Boccio(SR) finished 3rd with a season best time of 222.71; followed by a 14th place finish by Julie Littell(SR) with a time of 246.81; a 15th place finish by Danielle Flaherty(FR) with a time of 246.95 and a 19th place finish by Victoria Russo(FR) with a time of 254.62.  All four entries in the 50 Yard Freestyle scored points for Farmingdale as well with Sara Golshar(FR) finishing 5th in 26.79; Anesta(SR) finishing 8th in 27.29; Jen Barnola(SO) finishing 16th in 28.86 and Gaby Aleman(SO) finishing in 19th in 29.14. In the 100 Yard Butterfly Hendrickson(JR) finished 6th in 109.31, followed byLindsay Gazzo(SO) in 15th with a time of 117.98, Rzempoluch(SR) placing 18th in 120.29 and Jenna Grasso(JR) finishing 23rd  with a time of 127.91.

Boccio(SR) placed 3rd in the 100 Yard Freestyle with  a time of 57.07. While Anesta(SR) finished 8th in 100.17 and Golshar(FR) finished 9th in 100.33. Both are poised to break one minute at the Nassau County Swimming Championships. Barnola(SO) finished 18th in 104.03.  In the 500 Yard Freestyle Pye(SR) swam a 626.69 and finished in 10th; Pyros(SR) finished 12th in 632.28; Burhans(SO) swam a 639.91 for 17th place, while Flaherty(FR) placed 20th in 647.93.

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay finished 3rd in a time of 149.02 and almost breaking their own school record. Hendrickson(JR), Pye(SR) and Anesta(SR) all swam  their 50 in 27 seconds, while Boccio(SR) went a 26.  In the 100 Yard Backstroke Reade(JR) went her season best and finished in 7th place swimming a 111.41; while Lindsay Gehlbach(JR) placed 12th in 113.61. Littell(SR) placed 15th in 118.05 and Courtney Sack(FR) finished 18th in a time of 120.44.  In the 100 Yard Breaststroke Rzempoluch(SR) finished 11th swimming a 122.33, followed by Lauren Connors(SR) in 17th place with a time of 125.92; Leah Fishman(SR) in 21st place with a time of 129.89 and Maddie Reilly(FR) in 25th with a time of 135.89.

The Lady Dalers will be competing at the Nassau County Swimming and Diving Championships on November 4(diving at 5 p.m.) and November 6 (swimming prelims at 6:30 p.m.)  and November 7 (swimming finals at 2 p.m.).
