Benefit for Autism Speaks

A cocktail reception and fundraiser with artist Patrick Antonelle – 2009 Annual Winter/Snow Print release and signing will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sunflower Fine Art Gallery, 172 Seventh St. $25 per person advance; $30 at the door (checks made to: Autism Speaks) includes complimentary fine Italian wines and hot hors d’ oeuvres reception with renowned artist Patrick Antonelle, one raffle ticket to win a framed “Winter Walk to The Plaza” signed print by Patrick Antonelle, valued at $350. Blood Drive

The Floral Park Knights of Columbus hosts an annual Christmas Blood Drive and this year the Blood Drive will be held in loving memory of Emma, Alyson, and Kate Hance. The Hance Family Foundation Blood Drive will take place at Our Lady of Victory School in Floral Park, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Please help preserve the memory of these wonderful children and help to save countless other lives by donating blood on this day. Healthy individuals ages 16 (with parental permission) and older are encouraged to donate. All blood donors must provide a Social Security number and photo identification.

Breakfast with Santa

Chanukah Party

Congregation Beth Israel, 141 Hilton Ave., Hempstead, will be having its annual Chanukah Party at 2 p.m. The festivities will be sponsored by the Nass Family. There will be menorah lighting with Rabbi Michael Eisenstein, entertainment by Gary, auction by Alan Mantis and the usual latkes and assorted refreshments. Holiday Music Concert

The Waldorf Choral Society, with soprano Elizabeth Farnum and an orchestra, will present a concert of holiday music at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave. The concert will feature works by Bach (Christmas Cantata No. 142), Vivaldi (Beatus Vir), and Michael Haydn as well as other holiday selections. Tickets, priced at $20 adults, $18 for students with ID and seniors and $5 for children under 12, may be purchased at the door or by calling 747-4457.

Irish Culture Meets Pop Culture

As part of the free series of cultural events and lectures sponsored by Molloy College’s Irish Studies Institute, Brian Cogan will examine how 100 years of Irish culture have influenced American popular culture. The fun begins at 3 p.m. in the Reception Room of Kellenberg Hall at Molloy College. Take a look at Thomas Nast’s Irish cartoons and their influence on early American cartoons, Irish stage plays and songs, Irish folk music and its influence on Dylan the American folk scene, Samuel Beckett’s influence on Seinfeld, Bono’s influence on what it means to be American today. Legal Consultation for Seniors

The Nassau County Bar Association provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Seniors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney who volunteers to provide a half-hour private consultation on any topic of concern. The next clinic will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at NCBA, 15th and West Sts., Mineola. This popular free program regularly fills up quickly. Conducted by AAA New York in the Garden City office located at 229 Seventh St. The six-hour course allows participants to get the latest driving information from AAA-certified instructors, a 10 percent discount on collision and liability insurance and a reduction of up to four points from driver’s license. One hour lunch break on all-day sessions. The cost is $35 for AAA members; $49 nonmembers ; 25 senior discount days members 55+*; $25 young driver discount days members 16 to 24**).
