As everyone is thinking about what to do to help the people of Haiti, some East Norwich firefighters decided to take action.
Roseanne Wessel told us that her son, Kevin Wessel, heard that a volunteer ambulance company out of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn (BSVAC), were looking for volunteer EMTs to help the people devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. He, along with three of his fellow East Norwich Fire Company EMTs, landed in Port Au Prince, Haiti, on Jan. 17 at around 5 p.m.
Four East Norwich firefighters, Charlie Jeffreys, Jim Miranda, Mike Tappen and Kevin Wessel left from JFK to Miami, then on to Port Au Prince, Haiti, on a commercial plane filled with doctors, nurses, and emergency medical technicians.
“Say a prayer for their safe return and successful mission,” said Ms. Wessel.
We do add our prayers for their safety to yours. We are proud of their willingness to help others. It is the glue that holds our society together.
