It’s that time of year again. With only 77 days before the walk left, I am asking you to help out. Once again, team Newly Diagnosed Fight will do its part in taking steps to find a cure for multiple sclerosis by participating in the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Walk on Sunday, May 2.
Year after year since being diagnosed with MS in 2002, I’ve registered for our chapter’s annual MS Walk because I want to do something for the people, beside myself, who have also been diagnosed with this devastating disease.
I’ve had MS for a total of nearly 13 years now, even though I was diagnosed only seven and a half years ago, and because of the way MS can be and is for me, I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease.
My team, like every year, Newly Diagnosed Fight is committed to having a team of no less than 10 members; and this year our goal is to reach a record-breaking $10,000 collectively. Won’t you please consider helping us to accomplish this goal? Last year we came just $1,500 away from that goal, this year with your help, I know we can do it!
You can help in many ways. You can consider joining my team (without the need to walk) and raise funds; you can join my team and walk with us; or you can simply make a donation on my behalf. Donations can be made one of two ways. You can make your donation on my behalf by visiting http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/ TR/Walk/NYHWalkEvents?px=1700814&pg=personal&fr_id=13116&s_tafId=148931.
Donations can also be made by sending a check, payable to the National Society Long Island Chapter. Please mail the check directly to me Lisa Zeankowski, 7 Picture Lane, Hicksville, NY 11801 and include the team name, Newly Diagnosed Fight, and my name, Lisa Zeankowski – Team Captain, in the check’s memo area. Checks will be turned in on walk day. All donations, made either online through my personal page or in the form of a check, will be credited not only to my personal goal, but my team’s collective goal of $10,000.
Like last year, and previous years, I am proud to say that 100 percent of this year’s MS WALK funding will be donated and restricted to this program so that we can continue to help our families on Long Island stay together. A donation is the thought behind the gift you are giving to help someone else. Please choose to make a difference in someone’s life by making a donation today. Knowing that you just took one giant step forward in joining the movement to help make a world free of MS, as well as helping someone who is living with MS, live a better life.
The Kathleen Valachi-Catherine Caldarella Memorial Fund for Home Health Aide Assistance Program, named in memory of two of my friends’ moms who lost their battles to MS; they were in nursing homes because they could not get home care with a home health aide, sadly this happens all but too often…Having the ability to get home health aides when our insurance either doesn’t pay for it, or they only allocate a certain amount of visits, can mean the difference between keeping a loved one at home with family or making the family make the difficult choice of having to place that loved one into long-term care at a nursing facility.
