Local Law – Solicitations
The village’s solicitation law prohibits all unwanted commercial solicitations and distributions on all private residential property in the village and prohibits non-commercial solicitations and distributions on private property to the extent desired by the resident. This law was designed to protect residents from unwanted invasions of their privacy.
Any resident requesting not to be solicited should complete a “Notice of Objection” form at the Village Hall. Presently, the board has authorized certain groups to solicit door-to-door in the Village. As of this writing, the only groups that have permission to solicit are; the New York Youth Club, Their permit has been issued for the following dates: Saturday, Feb. 20; Saturday, March 13; Saturday, May 1; Saturday, May 8; Saturday, July 3; Saturday, July 10; and Saturday, Aug. 28; Garden City Community Church, soliciting funds or canned goods on Saturday, Feb. 27, between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon, in front of Kings and Key Food supermarkets. The church is donating the funds to the people of Haiti. The board has also renewed the long-standing agreement for the tool grinding services of Messrs. Anthony and Nicholas Sampogna throughout the village for the calendar year 2010.
Budget Work Sessions
I would like to remind you that the board of trustees will be conducting work sessions to review the proposed 2010/11 Operating/Capital Budgets on:
Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. (Budget Work Session 1 – Board Review)
Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8:30 a.m. (Budget Work Session 2 – Board Review)
Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. (Final Budget Work Session)
These sessions are currently scheduled to be held in the Board Room at Village Hall, 351 Stewart Ave., Garden City.
Sanitation Collection – Holiday Week
Village offices were closed on Monday, Feb. 15 for Presidents Day. There were no Regular Garbage and Recycling Pickups on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15 and there was no Rubbish pickup on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The schedule for the holiday week will be as follows:
Western half of Village (West of Rockaway Avenue) – Garbage on Tuesday and Thursday and Rubbish on Wednesday, Feb. 24
Eastern Half of Village (East of Rockaway Avenue) – Garbage on Wednesday and Friday and Rubbish on Wednesday, Feb. 24
Residents who were scheduled for recycling on Monday, Feb. 15 are asked to put their recyclables out on Monday, Feb. 22. All other recycling days will remain the same. Rubbish collection has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24.
