It’s been a very busy two weeks since our village election; it’s also been very exciting. I’m looking forward to both April 5 when I actually take office and April 6 when I am sworn in as mayor of Williston Park. I also look forward to serving the village as mayor and want to express my sincere thanks to all of you who worked so diligently to help get me elected. It took a large number of supporters to make this happen, with many reaching out to their friends and neighbors on my behalf. I also want to thank my opponents who stepped up and offered the residents a choice. On behalf of our residents I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lud and Alan for their years of service to the village. I congratulate Terry Thomann, Kevin Ryne and Kevin Kiley and thank both Sue Redding and Bill LaRusso.
During the course of the campaign I was truly lucky to meet many of our residents, both supporters and non-supporters alike. A common thread seemed to run through most; a desire to keep the small town community spirit alive in our village. I hope to do just that. As with running a campaign, it will take the efforts of many to work with me and the village board to make this happen. Volunteer programs are critical, if we, as a village, are to succeed with this goal. I have already begun to re-establish the Senior Advisory Committee, Recreation Committee, Beautification Committee, and the Neighborhood Watch Program. My expectation is to have these committees in full swing in the very near future.
As indicated during the course of the campaign I noted that I would become a “full time mayor” with both Saturday and evening availability. Once I am settled into my new position, a schedule will be posted in this paper and elsewhere in the community.
I’m anxious to begin my journey and am asking all to join with me as I move forward. I continue to believe that “Williston Park is a great place to visit but a better place to live.”
