Live in the LICM Theater:  The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

,May 1 and  May 2 at 2 p.m. (The Wonderful World of Oz extended through May 9) Join Dorothy and her loyal companions on their adventures through Oz, the Emerald City and beyond. Throughout their journeys meet familiar characters such as the Tin Man and the Munchkins, as well as new characters such as the Mouse Queen and Winkies. Bring the whole family to this Thomas W. Olson adaptation of the classic book by L. Frank Baum as it’s brought to life on the LICM stage. This play was first produced by the Tony award-winning Children’s Theater Company of Minneapolis Minnesota and is presented by agreement with “Plays for Young Audiences” Age: 3 and up. Fee: $6 with museum admission, ($5 LICM members), $10 theater only It started with a book!  LICM visitors will receive a visual reminder of that fact as they step into a larger than life, pop-up book that dazzles the eye and stimulates the mind LICM is the first museum to play host to this brand new traveling exhibit based upon the original book by L. Frank Baum that has enchanted generations. Families will experience science, art and history through the magic of this timeless story. Each exhibit section features an oversized three-dimensional book opened to a page of the classic story Children will have the opportunity to role play in Dorothy’s house, see the power of tornados as they crank up their own storm, solve brain teasers alongside the Scarecrow, learn heart facts with the Tin Man and crawl through a cave to test their courage During their exhibit visit, guests can expect to run into munchkins, flying monkeys, the wicked witch and of course, the Wizard of Oz, himself! 
All ages. Free with museum admission. The exhibition was produced and developed by Great Explorations Children’s Museum of St. Petersburg, Florida; designed and fabricated by Bruce Barry’s Wacky World Studios of Oldsmar, Florida; with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services The exhibition has been endorsed by The International Wizard of Oz Club and The L. Frank Baum Family Trust produced with assistance from scholars, collectors and enthusiasts who advised on its development. All ages. Free with museum admission. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old, $9 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. Sugar Babies Continues Its Run at Herricks Community Theater

The Herricks Community Players will present Sugar Babies under the talented direction of John Hayes and producer Carol Hayes. Sugar Babies stars Warren Schein and Michele Maza. Sugar Babies also features Richard Allman, Rob Gio, George Greenfield, Jeff Rosenfeld, Michael Spicer and the Sugar Babies It may be seen on April 30, May 1 at 8 p.m. and on May 2 at 3 p.m. on May 7  and 8 at 8 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. Merillon Little League to Hold Annual Parade

The Merillon Little League, a New Hyde Park institution, will hold its Annual Little League Parade to step-off at Manor Oaks School, 1950 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park at 10 a.m. The parade will then head west on Hillside Avenue to New Hyde Park Road when the parade will head north to Marcus Avenue and then turn west again to the beautiful Merillon Little League field where the ceremonies will be held ending with the throwing out of the first ball.

Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society to Hold Plant/Cake Sale

The Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society will hold a Plant and Cake Sale from 4 to 6 p.m. and again on Sunday, May 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school auditorium. Delicious home-baked cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. will be available as well as beautiful plants and hanging baskets. There will also be raffles for baskets of cheer. Everyone is welcome. Fifth Congressional District High School Art Show

The opening date for this exhibition has been changed. The dates are May 1 through May 16. The Fifth Congressional District High School Art Show is organized by the office of U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman, this annual exhibition showcases art by students from the 39 school districts within the Fifth District. Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, two traffic lights west of Glen Cove Rd.) in Roslyn Harbor. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Members are always admitted free. There is a $2 per car parking fee on weekends (members free).

New Hyde Park Board of Fire Commissioners to Meet

The next regular meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the New Hyde Park Fire District will be held at 8 p.m. at the headquarters fire house, 1555 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.

Winthrop University Hospital Spirit of Women Education Series

Winthrop-University Hospital’s Spirit of Women community education series will host a free lecture for women, “Urinary Incontinence: Mind Over Bladder”. The causes and treatment of urinary incontinence will be discussed. The program begins with registration at 6:45 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. It will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola. George Lazarou, MD, Chief of Gynecology and Director of Urogynecology at Winthrop, will discuss the evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence. Peter S. Finamore, MD, Associate Director of Urogynecology at Winthrop, will discuss pelvic organ prolapse.

Ribbon Cutting for Herricks High School New Track

The ribbon cutting for the new Herricks High School track will be held at 9 a.m. This will kick-off the Herricks Spring Sports Festival which will be held throughout the day on the high school fields as various events take place along with a barbecue.

Lutheran Church of Our Saviour Spring Fair

Come one, come all, to our Spring Fair. We have something for everyone. Our food café will be open for a continental breakfast and for lunch. There will be Mothers’ Day gifts a plenty from our vendors along with plants, home baked goods, children’s items and crafts, used books, art, music and treasure trove items. Red Cross Walk For Local Disaster Relief

The Nassau County Red Cross will hold a Disaster Relief Walk at Eisenhower Park, Field 6-A. Check-in at 9 a.m. Walk begins at 11 a.m. Fee $20.
