Just What Is Bay Day Anyway? A Day In the Sun Having Fun

Live Music, Great Food, Local Non-Profits and Vendors, Anything That Floats Race and Free Sails: Christeen, Sonar, Kayaking!

The WaterFront Center will host its 10th annual Bay Day Festival on Sunday, June 6, at Beekman Beach at the Western Waterfront in Oyster Bay between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. “The WaterFront Center is pleased to offer Bay Day as an exciting way to connect people to the environment and ways to responsibly enjoy the waterfront resources existing in their community” said David Waldo, executive director of the WaterFront Center.

Bay Day provides a venue where families can come down and enjoy live music while spending a day at the beach. People will also be able to get aboard the Christeen and Sonars for free sails and take advantage of some free kayaking. The Blessing of the Fleet and the famous Anything That Floats Race are some of the highlighted events. Local vendors and not for profits organizations are providing activities and sharing their vision with the community.

Bay Day will feature three free sails, on a first-come-first-serve sign-up basis; aboard the historic oyster sloop Christeen (each sail can accommodate 24 passengers). Tickets will be provided on a first come first serve basis at the Pier beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The WaterFront Center will offer free sails aboard our formed Olympic Class keelboats to students 8 years and older. Tickets are limited and will be given on a first-come-first-serve sign up basis starting at 11 a.m. at the WaterFront Center tent.

At 12:30 p.m. the Oyster Bay Power Squadron will conduct its annual Blessing of the Fleet. View a colorful parade of local watercraft as they motor by the end of the Western Waterfront Pier for this annual tradition.

Then at 4 p.m. head to the beach for the Anything That Floats Race. Don’t miss this wacky fun race which challenges participants to create an outrageous floating device made of nontraditional, recyclable materials. Racers may enter up to the 4 p.m. start of the race, so crank up your creativity and come out and race.

Food will be available for purchase from our great local vendors Canterbury, Fiddleheads and Gooseberry Grove. Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn/beach chairs and blankets.
