Swim-A-Cross and Beach Bash
This annual Nassau County Red Cross fundraiser takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Centre Island Beach, Bayville. This family-friendly event includes a swim, with varied distances from 50 yards to a mile, as well as inflatable bouncers, games, food and live music. Call 297-0175.

St. Rocco’s Festival
Featuring rides, games, live music, Sunday night procession and all that great food: spaghetti and meatballs Paduli-style, homemade sausages, and grandma’s secret-recipe pasta sauce. Founded in 1910, the festival has been revived by Italian-American Citizens Club of Oyster Bay. The festival will be held July 28 through Aug. 1, each night from 6 to 10 p.m. at Fireman’s Field. Oyster Bay Farmers’ Market
Celebrate the splendors of summer with fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses and other delicacies at the “first ever” farmers’ market from noon to 6 p.m. in the area of the Derby-Hall bandstand, opposite the post office. It will be there each Friday, continuing into the fall, local growers, artists, bakers and soap makers will gather in this historic town to sell their goods at an idyllic outdoor market. The work of local artists will also be featured. Kick off your weekend with all of the fresh ingredients needed for your summer recipes while treating yourself to an inspired outdoor shopping experience. All of the market goods are grown or made locally. Other local products to be added soon include homemade breads, pumpkins and gourds.

At the 8 p.m. meeting Jeff Kracke, professional photographer, will show how to capture the best dahlia images from our gardens. Artwalks
The Oyster Bay hamlet will be “the place to be” on the first Thursday of the month between 7 and 9 p.m. The program offers artwalks in the local galleries that will be open and featuring exhibitions of artists from around the world. Other businesses in the downtown area will also be showing artwork. Restaurants will be offering 20 percent off on meals; wine-tastings; burger and beer specials; along with indoor and outdoor music and art. Cafés and restaurants will be open for dessert and coffee specials and will also have art displayed. Currently Jessica Semins is a regular Thursday evening performer at Fiddleheads. She plays the fiddle and offers Irish songs as well as original songs. The artwalks will begin at Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) followed by a visit to the Atelier Gallery Fine Arts. 9 E. Main St. (205-0907) and The Teaching Studios, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404) which will also be open offering a workshop evening and a tour of their facilities.
