Ellen Pober Rittberg, author of 35 Things Your Teen Won’t Tell You, So I Will, will be giving a talk at the Island Trees Library, 38 Farmedge Rd., Levittown from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Ellen will discuss the secrets to being a stealthy, effective, and superb parent to tweens and teens. The book is part of Turner Publishing’s Good Things to Know series, providing parents with a mini-manifesto to help navigate the treacherous terrain of hormonal and temperamental teens. Outdoor Country Craft Fair

Festival

Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 369 Green Ave., East Meadow, will host its second annual Faith, Food and Fellowship Festival (rain or shine), from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will feature Slavic and Greek food, children’s activities, church tours, vendors, flea market and a raffle. Admission is free. A 9/11 memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. that day and the church is outreaching to local fire, police and government officials to serve the community’s spiritual needs. Walk of Hope

Think Pink Think Green Breast Cancer Walk of Hope at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. Check-In time is 8:30-9:30 a.m.; walk begins at 10 a.m. Meet at field 6 & 6A. Early registration fee $25 by 8/25 or $30 after that. Free T-shirt to the first 300 registrants. Children under 14 free if accompanied by parent. Teams welcome; bring your banners. Pet Memorial Day Ceremonies

Hosted by Bideawee at its Pet Memorial Park, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh, at 1 p.m., as a loving tribute to departed companion pets that contributed to their owner’s lives. Speakers: Medea Berkman, Bideawee bereavement counselor, and Reverend Lynn Sullivan, associate pastor of the Garden City Community Church. Performances by Soh Young Lee-Segrado and Friends. The National Anthem will be sung by Alyssa Pallotta, a 4th grade student. Interpretive Dance by Youngok Hong dedicated to beloved pets. Highlights: music, congenial companionship, pet loss literature, light refreshments and more. Red carnation remembrance flowers will be distributed courtesy of the East Meadow Branch of the Municipal Credit Union.

•Sept. 12: The church will be holding its annual Sunday School Rally Day at 9 a.m. You do not have to be a member of our church to enroll your children in the Sunday School program. The Wantagh Preservation Society is holding an “Autumn Yard Sale”on Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ( rain date Sept. 26) at 1700 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, on the beautiful museum grounds. The rental fee for a 10’ wide space is $35 which would include leaving your car on museum grounds. You provide your own table. You may sell new and used items, crafts and collectables. Cub Scout Round Up

Parents of boys in first – fifth grades who are interested in joining the Cub Scouts at Temple B’nai Torah, Wantagh, should contact Jeff Cohen at 205-1589. The Cub Scouts are sponsored by the Brotherhood of Temple B’nai Torah, a reform congregation. “We do lots of projects and games, go on trips, do community service and go on great overnights, “said Jeff Cohen. Meetings are on Thursdays in the Youth Lounge from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. starting in September. Troop 189 has been awarded BSA Quality Unit Status many times, the BSA Centennial Quality Unit Award Status more than once as well as the Nassau County Gus Katz Award for Service to God and Country in 2008. United Skates of America Family Fun Nights
