Today, our new puppy enjoyed her first visit to the dog run at Christopher Morley Park on Searingtown Road in Roslyn Estates. However, it is time consuming to travel there from our place here in town. I’m afraid Molly is not going to visit the park very often though it is so good for her. I mentioned this to another dog owner who told me that the county has been petitioned to open several parks and that I should check some websites. So I did.
I learned from www.lidog.org that Parks Commissioner Jose Lopez agreed in 2008 to have one built at Eisenhower Park (how convenient that would be). Later that year, plans were put on hold due to budget cuts. In October 2009, Mr. Lopez announced that the park would open in the spring of 2010. However since then, a new commissioner has been appointed and there has been no news about the proposed park. It is feared that the project may be stalled or cancelled.
It is critical that dog owners email Nassau County’s new Parks Commissioner Carnell Foskey at cfoskey@nassaucountyny.gov. Just write a sentence or two about what a dog run would mean to you and inquire as to the progress of this project.
Even if you are not a dog owner, please help.
