Constitution Week – September 17 – 23
The Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has asked me to proclaim the week of Sept. 17 through 23 as “Constitution Week” in Garden City.
Our nation’s Constitution, adopted Sept. 17, 1787, provided a fundamental document for freedom and independence, which has become a way of life in our great nation. All of us have cause to pause and reflect on our heritage. Residents are urged to fly the flag all week in observance.
Shop and Dine in Garden City and Enjoy the Experience
There are many things that make Garden City such an appealing place to live and work. One of these is our viable and welcoming business districts with their fine restaurants, unique shops and regional stores.
Many residents consider shopping and dining in our business districts as “experience shopping” because they meet friends and neighbors along the way and have an opportunity to interact with them. This is in stark contrast to frantically dashing through the crowds in the mall or the big box retailers.
I encourage residents to make a conscious effort to choose Garden City as the place to shop and dine. Customer service, selection and quality are outstanding. While shopping or dining let the merchant know that you appreciate them and all that they offer.
Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. The continuation of the Public Hearing regarding the St. Paul’s School Demolition for Open Space Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be held at Village Hall in the boardroom, on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. Persons wishing to speak on the DEIS will be asked to register and limit remarks to 3 minutes.
Village’s Web Site
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s home page under the Heading of Administration is a sub-heading “Village Map and Key Areas of Interest,” which contains direct links to various schools, parks, the Village Yard, etc.
