Domestic Violence Awareness Ceremony

Halloween Costume Sale
The Albany Avenue PTA’s 5th grade committee is holding its second annual Halloween Costume Sale. The goal of the sale is twofold: to serve as a 5th grade fundraiser and also, with the prices of Halloween costumes escalating, to offer the Farmingdale community “lightly used” costumes at very inexpensive prices. The costumes were donated by the Albany Avenue community. The sale will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall, the school’s cafeteria. Comedy Night Dinner Show
Sponsored by the Eve Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to breaking the chains of domestic violence. This fun-filled evening, at Palmer’s American Grille, 123 Fulton St., features three comedians, door prizes, fifty/fifty and a three-course dinner, all for $49.95. Volunteer Fair
More than 50 agencies expected to attend. Would you like to learn more about nonprofit organizations and charities? Do you want to discover how volunteering can make a difference in our community and in your life? Attend the 4th Annual LI Volunteer Fair, hosted by Farmingdale State College, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roosevelt Hall’s Multi Purpose Room. The event is free and all are welcome. The fair brings together members of the LI community and the area’s nonprofits. Attendees will be introduced to organizations that need volunteer participation in order to continue to reach out to Long Islanders in need. Information on credit bearing internships will also be available through many of the nonprofit organizations. •Oct. 13: Young Adult Task Force. Action LI will debrief the Avalon Bay-Huntington Station Hearing and discuss the alliance’s next step regarding Young Adult Housing. This meeting will also be crucial in organizing our next political event where we will give the Politicians the opportunity to meet with Long Island’s young adults. 6 to 7 p.m.
•Oct. 14: The MTA Payroll Tax is taking its toll on the economy, the business community and action must be taken. Action LI ’s Small Business and Economic Development Task Force is working with its Transportation Task Force, many LI companies and legislators to effectively address the issue. In order to maintain a balanced position, Action LI’s Transportation Task Force is studying the potential impact of repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax on the transportation system and work closely with the MTA in an attempt to develop a solution that does not compromise the level of service. Those members who are in the Small Business & Economic Task Force, this event will act as the meeting for the month. 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Melville Marriott.
