Incumbents. Insurgents. Tea Party. Voter Anger. Government Dysfunction. Accountability. Election Day is just around the corner and voters want answers and action.
As part of its ongoing mission to educate and represent the interests of the community, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce is holding a Candidate’s Forum at its next monthly meeting on Oct. 20.
Slated to appear at the Chamber’s Forum are candidates for state and local elections, including Councilwoman Rebecca M. Alesia, Donna Lee, Assemblyman Charles D. Lavine, Robert Germino, Senator Carl L. Marcellino, Larry Silverman, Senator Kemp Hannon and Francesca Carlow.
Important questions and issues abound for the candidates: taxes, job creation, mortgage foreclosure, economic opportunities, school funding and education, the next generation and the future of Long Island. Pressing on the mind of Chamber business and community members is how will our state and local governments encourage local businesses which are engines of growth? Why should long-term incumbents be re-elected in the face of New York State’s “dysfunctional” state government? Can the public expect political newcomers to do any better than the incumbents they hope to replace? How can the future be secured for the next generation of Long Islanders when many of them can’t find suitable jobs?
The Chamber’s event is designed to create a setting to explore and answer these questions in a meaningful and thoughtful forum. Election Day is on Nov. 2 and the candidates, incumbents and political newcomers are here to answer questions and be challenged about their vision for the future of Long Island and the community.
The Candidate’s Forum will be held on Oct. 20 at 8 a.m. at the Plainview Marriott Residence Inn on Gerhard Road. The event is open to all members of the Chamber as well as the entire Plainview-Old Bethpage community.
In other news, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce recently concluded Plainview Restaurant Week, which showcased the culinary delights offered by Plainview eateries. Andrew Lamkin, who spearheaded Restaurant Week said, “The event was a great success! The participating restaurants were happy and told us that they were busy and saw new patrons dining in their restaurants. We plan on building on this event and promoting Plainview’s restaurants in the future.” The secret is out – Plainview is a culinary mecca!
