Preschool Arts and Crafts Begins
The Recreation Department will begin its first session of Preschool Arts and Crafts the week of Oct. 25. This six-week program is held at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall and is open to children ages 3-1/2 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children interested in this program may register for either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30.
The child registering must be 3-1/2 by the start of the class in order to register for a session. To register, visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.
After School Science Enrichment Program
The Recreation Department is sponsoring an after school science enrichment program through Mad Science of Long Island. This program will be similar to our very popular summer camp and is open to children in grades K–six who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The program will run in a one-hour workshop format for six weeks and all demonstration and activity materials will be included. Classes will begin the week of Oct. 25, according to the following schedule:
Tuesday at 4 p.m. Kindergarten to second grade
Wednesday at 4 p.m. grades three to six
The cost of this six-week program will be $95. Topics will include aerodynamics, super structures, the science of magic, and other exciting and fun things! Space is limited to 20 children per class, so please register early. Make checks payable to “Mad Science of Long Island” and visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. to register.
Adult Field House Time Opens
St. Paul’s Fieldhouse opened on Tuesday, Oct.12 to adult residents of the Village of Garden City for the following activities:
Men’s Open Basketball: Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30-10 p.m.
Men’s Over 40 Basketball: Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30-10 p.m.
Men’s Over 30 Basketball: Tuesdays 7:30-10 p.m.
Adult Volleyball: Thursdays 7:30-10 p.m.
Adult Soccer: Thursdays 8:30-10 p.m. (beginning 10/28)
All games are strictly pickup. All participants must be high school graduates or older. Proof of residency is required each time you attend.
Registration for Second Session of Peewee Sports Now Begins
The second session of the Recreation Department’s Peewee Sports Sampler will begins the week of Nov. 9. This six-week program incorporates a variety of sports with basic instruction geared to the preschool aged child. Each session runs for one hour, one a week and is instructional, combining news skills and free play in a non-competitive setting. This program in open to Garden City residents ages 4-5. A participant must be 4 by the start of the class in order to participate.
We will offer sessions according to the following schedule:
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
The Peewee Sport program will be held in St. Paul’s Fieldhouse and will cost $75 for the six-week session. To register, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please make check payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City.
Adult Dance Exercise Classes Now Forming
Garden City Recreation will be offering the following adult dance classes with Felicia Lovaglio as the instructor, which began Oct. 19. The following classes for adults are offered:
Ballet: Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m. 8 weeks $72
Zumba: Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m. 8 weeks $72
Zumba: Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. 8 weeks $72
Dance Performance Group Saturdays at 10 a.m. — this class teaches different dance techniques and will culminate with a dance performance in late spring. This 20-week program costs $180.
All classes take place in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. This program is open to adult residents of the Village of Garden City. To register for any of these classes, visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave.
Rec Department Platform Court Membership Application for Residents
The Community Park Platform Tennis resident membership covers anyone interested in playing platform tennis on a regular basis from Sept. 15, 2010 to April 15, 2011. This membership is open to any individual who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. It covers unlimited play for the membership holder only under the rules and regulations set forth by the Garden City Recreation Department. It does not cover any programs or special events that the Recreation Department itself chooses to run, nor does it cover guests. Said events would require an additional fee if applicable. The fee for membership will be $225. To register for membership, visit the Recreation Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. Checks should be made payable to the “Village of Garden City.”
