Manhattan College golfer Thomas Romano maybe most easily recognized on the hardwood as an assistant for the men’s basketball team but it’s on the golf course where the senior’s talent really shines.
Competing in the prestigious George Sands Memorial Team Championship at The Woodmere Club in Woodmere, Romano and his brother Brandon, a freshman at Dowling College, finished in seventh place out of 50 teams after shooting a 70 in the best ball team event held on Thursday, Oct. 14.
To qualify for the merit-based invitational, participants were required to obtain points by placing in individual events throughout the summer sponsored by the Long Island Golf Association (LIGA.)
The LIGA, is an organization consisting of 81 public and private golf courses in Long Island, Manhattan and Staten Island, which conducts competitive tournaments for its members throughout the calendar year.
Consistently in the Top 10 of each tournament and match he has participated in over the past three seasons, the Farmingdale native was recently ranked 115th overall in Division I Men’s Golf. It is the highest individual placement for a member of the team in the program’s history. Romano holds three records for Manhattan including the Lowest Non-Tournament Competitive Round, an accomplishment he set in 2009 after logging a 66 at the Glenwood Country Club.
