(The following letter is in response to the seminar announcement titled “Nassau Bar Association Hosts Cyber-bullying and Sexting Seminar Held” that appeared in the Friday, Nov. 5 edition of the Farmingdale Observer.)
I am writing to you about the November 5th article titled “Nassau Bar Association Hosts Cyber-bullying and Sexting Seminar Held.”
My issue lies in the simple fact that an anti-bullying coordinator will address sexting to children grades four to eight. I do not think that children of this age should have a cellular phone.
Elementary schools are designed with phones built in them. A child in the fourth grade does not need a separate phone to call or text anyone.
If anything is wrong with today’s society, it is that children in elementary schools have cell phones. We live in a world where there is hardly any media censoring.
Curse words are being thrown around on the television and radio. Children know more today about sex and drugs than ever before. It is a shame that this is what the world is coming to.
I don’t think that cell phones help this matter much.
