At this year’s Community Social Action Committee of the Interreligious & Human Needs Council setting up of the Thanksgiving dinner boxes for their Holiday Sharing Program, we learned of the great need in the community.
“The numbers are definitely up and the monetary donations are definitely down this year,” said co-chair Randy Daub.
“The food donations were good, but not as much as was collected as last year. It’s the times. It is what it is, but the families will have food,” he said.
Co-chair Carol Daub added, “Please say we are still accepting donations for food and certificates. Our funds are very low this year. If we get enough money we will do the certificates for Christmas too. Please send donations to C.S.A.C.; P.O. Box 231; Oyster Bay, NY 11771. We are thousands behind in funds. It was shocking to see we were so behind,” she added.
Their Toy Drive is coming up on Dec. 21 and 22.
That says it all. Here, in the best of countries we are having the fallout from the worst of times. It would appear that those who gave the most before are being challenged themselves.
So it looks as if more of us adding to the pot can make up for the thousands-less dollars still needed.
“Let us not fail those less fortunate than ourselves!”, added the Daubs.
