Amahl and the Night Visitors

Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. (corner of Main St. and Grant Ave.), Farmingdale, will present Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti, a special opera in English, at 4 p.m. It tells the story of a poor, crippled boy, Amahl, and his mother, who are dazzled by a visit from the three kings on their way to Bethlehem on the first Christmas Eve. Directed by FUMC’s Music Director David Majoros, this hour-long production will feature professional singers, dancers, orchestral ensemble and members of FUMC’s choirs. The performances will be followed by a Christmas carol sing-along. Suggested donation is $10 adults; children 12 and under $5. For reservations, call 694-3424.

Fine Arts and Craft Holiday Spectacular

The shows feature a wide variety of all kinds: chocolatiers, artists, oil and canvas, watercolors, photographers, antique furniture, potters, ceramics, floral and wreath designers, monogrammed and antique jewelry, stained glass, decoupage, dolls, quilting, tapestry, decorated pillows, wooden and leather crafts, Victorian items, beautifully designed ornaments of all kinds, handpainted furniture and accessories for the home, pet clothing and accessories, handpainted glassware, personalized children’s wooden toys, vintage quilts and bedding, soy candles, lotions, handmade soaps, oils, wearable art, clothing and hats, handpainted tye-dyed, Swarovski Crystal belts, beautifully designed handbags, accessories and more. Hanukkah Concert

Performed by the American Chamber Ensemble. Music for voice, clarinet, piano and strings by European and American Jewish masters, including George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Lukas Foss, Jacob Weinberg, Boris Levenson, Ernest Bloch, Elie Siegmeister and Gregor Fitelberg. Special guest artist will be legendary clarinetist Stanley Drucker. Performers will be ACE Directors Naomi Drucker and Blanche Abram with pianist Marilyn Lehman, violinist Eriko Sato, cellist Chris Finckel and soprano Karen Lehman. Composer’s Landscape Workshop

Pianists, piano teachers, piano aficionados and students are invited to participate in or audit “The Composer’s Landscape,” a workshop presented by Steinway artist Carol Montparker, pianist, lecturer and teacher. At the two-hour workshop, Ms. Montparker will perform several works by the composer-in-focus (Schubert), followed by a talk and discussion about the essential elements of performing his piano works. Each of several selected piano students will then participate by performing their works-in-progress in the master class. 7:30 p.m. at the Steinway Piano Gallery, 505 Walt Whitman Rd., Melville. This professionally facilitated group meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and allows participants opportunities to share feelings and strategies related to caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
