The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program presents a free forum series for breast cancer survivors and those who care about them. This series is support by Meghan’s Pansies, a special fund of the Adelphi program. The forums are free. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
New support groups are being offered by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. Groups are held at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. There is no cost for any group, however, preregistration is required. Call Sandi Kafenbaum 877-4314 or the Breast Cancer Hotline at 800-877-8077:
•For women newly diagnosed and/or in treatment, a group will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tentatively beginning on Jan. 19.
•A group will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Mondays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. tentatively beginning Jan. 24.
•A group for single women with breast cancer will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 19.
•A post-treatment group will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 19.
•The Close Knit Group, a knit and talk group for women with breast cancer, meets from 2:30 to 4 pm. on the first Monday of each month.
•Other groups for couples, spouses/partners, women with metastatic breast cancer and men with breast cancer are available upon request.
Special Christmas Courses
The George Mercer School of Theology, 65 Fourth St, announced two special courses to be offered related to Christmas. The first course, “Christmas: Theology, History and Culture,” will be given on Dec. 11 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The cost of the course is $25. The Very Reverend Dr. David B. Lowry, Dean of the School of Theology will teach the course. The second course, “Handel’s Messiah: Music and Scripture,” will be given on Dec. 18 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Dean Lowry will be joined by musicologist Gregory Eaton. The cost of the course is $25. •Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.

Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. Exhibit
Nassau Community College’s Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery, Room 140 of the College Center Building, presents Accelerate through Dec. 22. For this exhibit, emerging artists aged 16 to 25 were asked to consider the many personal reasons that accelerate the desire to create. This mixed media exhibition is organized by VSA Arts – the International Organization on Arts and Disability, an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with support from Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools.
