MacArthur HS Honors Scholar Athlete Christopher Perez

MacArthur senior Chris Perez is no stranger to athletic accolades. His wrestling career, which began in 7th grade, has been replete with honors and awards. His academic record, however, has been equally successful; his 94 GPA reflecting four years of challenging courses including Honors, Accelerated, and Advanced Placement classes.

Perez is a superior scholar-athlete who has crowned his achievements by formally committing to Princeton University.

Perez loves to wrestle. He said, “It’s an individual sport; what you put into it, is what you get out of it.”

He became the Nassau County Champion in the 112-pound category in his junior year and is a three-time All-American, just winning his match against the top ranked wrestler in the country at the Super 32 Tournament in North Carolina.

Perez is particularly interested in molecular biology, and hopes to major in pre-med with a concentration in orthopedics.

Princeton was always his first choice school. At an interview with the admissions committee, he was asked why he thought he would fit in to the prestigious ivy-league university.

“I’m always up for a challenge,” he said. “I’m very competitive, and the harder it gets, the better I do.”

Although he’s relieved that the college search is over, he is thrilled for his future. Perez said, “I’m looking forward to it all.”
