The Mayor’s Corner: January 21, 2011

Happy New Year to all. Snowstorm Continued:

After my last article, I feel it necessary to provide additional information regarding snowstorms of more than two inches. Once the fallen snow reaches a depth of two inches a snow emergency is declared by the mayor.

At that point cars must be removed from the streets or a summonses is issued to the owner of the offending vehicle. According to the village code the emergency doesn’t end until 18 hours after snow has stopped falling. The fine for tickets issued is $150. If the fine is not paid within 30 days the fine increases to $300. Therefore, in case of a pending or actual snowstorm, Please move your vehicle off the street. Besides avoiding a hefty fine, this will allow our employees to plow effectively, to better ensure, as best as possible, safe, passable village  roads.

Your trustees have been busy these past few weeks. Thanks to Trustees Barbara Alanga, Kevin Rynne, and secretary Colleen Carboine, Operation Santa was successful once again.

Trustee Alanga has been working with the Senior Committee planning the Senior Social which is set for February 13. As always, it will be held at the American Legion, thanks to the legionnaires generosity. Barbra has been working hard with her Welcoming Committee preparing an extremely informative booklet that will be provided to new residents.  Invitations  for a Saturday breakfast at Village Hall on January 22,  have been sent to residents who have moved into the village over the past year.

Deputy Mayor Terry Thoman and myself  have already begun preparations for the 2011 pool season.

Trustee Rynne along with the recreation committee have made their car magnets more readily available as they can now be purchased at both Village Hall and the Library. Trustee Bill Darmstadt will be setting a date for the next neighborhood watch meeting in the near future.

With winter weather conditions making roads less safe ( see above ),  it is imperative that we all drive with extreme caution. While our village employees  work hard to provide residents with safe roads it is not always possible to completely remove/melt all snow and ice. Please drive a little slower, leave the smart phone/cell phone unanswered and obey all traffic devices.
